Improving Literacy

Literacy is a fundamental skill that empowers people and opens doors not only within formal learning pathways, but also in other areas such the development of empathy and imagination. Children are more likely to develop a solid foundation in reading and writing if they enjoy engaging in these activities and do so from a young age. Creating an enjoyment of reading requires the support of varied and engaging resources not only for young children but also for teenagers and young adults. In addition teachers and parents need to be equipped with the knowledge and skills to assist young people to develop foundational literacy skills and to extend these as they independently grow as readers and writers.
